I’m Niki Mitchell, owner and floral designer at Among the Blooms! One of the most important parts of what we do at Among the Blooms is getting to know our clients, so I’d like to take the opportunity to tell you about myself first.
My childhood in the countryside of England was shaped by the flowers, gardens, and forests which surrounded me. My grandmother’s garden was my playground, and I remember wanting to immerse myself in the beauty of her fragrant old-fashioned roses. I was only allowed to retrieve the petals that had already fallen, while my grandmother would delicately cut the grandest roses and place them in a vase on the kitchen table. There is a quotation that I love from Lady Bird Johnson: “Where flowers bloom, so does hope.” This was certainly true in my grandmother’s kitchen, and I have found time and again that flowers have the power to brighten not only rooms, but people’s lives as well.
Today, my happy place is still in the garden. My personal style as a florist has been greatly inspired by the natural harmony, luxurious abundance, and charming whimsy of the English garden style. In my floral work, I try to capture the joy which comes to my mind and heart when I think of what flowers have brought – and continue to bring – to my life.
I am inspired daily by my husband, son, and daughter who keep me grounded, and will have my heart forever. I am an avid collector of all things vintage, and I love to incorporate vintage elements into my designs. I love God, I have a passion for helping others, and I always try to live life with gratitude.
